Thermal Imaging Inspections

See surface temperature patterns that can point to moisture, heat loss or insulation gaps.

Infrared thermography shows differences in surface temperature that the eye cannot see. Using a FLIR C5 thermal camera, we look for anomalies such as cold areas, thermal bridges or unusual patterns that deserve a closer look, then verify them with other methods.

Thermal Imaging Inspections

Common concerns

  • Possible moisture-related temperature patterns
  • Thermal bridges and cold corners
  • Insulation anomalies
  • Heat loss around windows and doors
  • Underfloor heating and pipe routes
  • Building envelope concerns

How we investigate

  1. 01Planning around conditions: thermography needs a temperature difference to be useful
  2. 02Systematic scanning of walls, ceilings, floors and junctions
  3. 03Interpretation of patterns, taking reflections and emissivity into account
  4. 04Verification of anomalies with moisture measurements where relevant
  5. 05Thermal and visual images to document findings where agreed

Important limitations

A thermal camera measures apparent surface temperature. It does not see through walls and does not directly detect water or mould. A cold area may be caused by moisture, but also by air movement, reflections or construction details, so thermography is an investigative aid rather than proof.

What you can expect

  • An explanation of what the thermal images show and what they do not
  • Anomalies cross-checked with other observations
  • Practical recommendations for further steps

Frequently asked questions

Can a thermal camera see a leak inside the wall?

Not directly. It can show a temperature pattern on the surface that may be consistent with moisture, which we then check with other methods.

Does the weather matter?

Yes. A difference between indoor and outdoor temperature, or between wet and dry materials, makes thermography far more informative.

Which camera do you use?

We use a FLIR C5 compact thermal imaging camera.
